The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA) was given Parliamentary Royal Assent on May 13, 2003.

The federal government, in consultation with the Yukon government and the Council of Yukon First Nations developed regulations that describe the assessable activities, and provide time frames and protocol for regulators in arriving at a decision. The regulations were approved and finalized on November 28th, 2005 and were published in the Canada Gazette in December 2005.
