Recommendations

YESAB issues recommendations to decision bodies on whether a project should proceed, proceed with conditions, or not proceed. Decision bodies—the applicable Yukon First Nation, Yukon, or Canada governments—are responsible for making the final decision and issuing any permits or authorizations.

Where Public Input Fits

Public input is a critical part of the assessment record.

Comments help identify:

  • Potential effects on the environment and communities
  • Local or regional concerns
  • Gaps in information
  • Opportunities to improve project design

Public input is considered alongside scientific, technical, and Indigenous knowledge throughout the assessment.

After Recommendations Are Issued

YESAB’s role concludes when recommendations are submitted to decision bodies.

Decision bodies then:

  • Consider YESAB’s recommendations
  • Make the final decision to accept, vary, or reject them
  • Issue any required permits or authorisations

YESAB does not enforce conditions or monitor projects after decisions are made.
