YESAB confirms Board quorum, assures uninterrupted assessments

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) confirms that Canada has re-appointed two board members and appointed a new Board member to YESAB. The following individuals now commence a new three-year term on YESAB:

  • Dennis Nicloux, reappointed Executive Committee member nominated by the Council of Yukon First Nations
  • Michael Walton, reappointed Board member nominated by the Government of Yukon
  • Roberta Joseph, new Board member nominated by the Council of Yukon First Nations

With these new appointments, YESAB now has five of seven positions filled which ensures quorum for both the Board and Executive Committee.

Commenting on the appointment of the new board members, Executive Director, Kent Bretzlaff stated, “Thanks to the recent appointments, YESAB can once again ensure to the public that our mandate to conduct neutral assessments across the Yukon will not be interrupted. We look forward to continuing to engage with all Yukon First Nations and residents on matters related to assessment.”

YESAB’s Board is a federally appointed board that is comprised of nominations from the Council of Yukon First Nations, the Government of Yukon, and the Government of Canada. Before the appointments, nominations to the Board are made as specified in the legislation, the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA). The current list of Board members and details on the appointment process can be found here.
