Privacy Policy

This Privacy Statement sets out how YESAB collects, uses, and discloses personal information from persons who visit www.yesab.ca. A separate privacy applies for the YESAB Online registry, which you can view here.

Your privacy and our website

We are committed to offering a website that respects our visitors’ privacy. All personal information we collect is governed by the federal Privacy Act. This legislation provides rights of access to, correction of, and protection of personal information.

What personal information do we collect from people who visit www.yesab.ca?

Like most websites, our servers automatically collect information from people who visit the site in order to learn about the habits of our site visitors. The information we collect includes:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address of the domain from which the internet was accessed;
  • Pages visited within the www.yesab.ca site;
  • Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site;
  • Date and time of the visit; and
  • Type of browser used

IP addresses are unique numbers assigned by Internet Service Providers to all devices used to access the Internet. Web servers automatically log the IP addresses of visitors to their sites. The IP address, on its own, may not identify an individual. However, in certain circumstances, it could be used to identify an individual using the site. It is for this reason that IP addresses have been considered to be personal information, particularly when combined with other data automatically collected when a visitor requests a Web page.

Why we collect your personal information

Our website is an important outreach and public information tool for YESAB, and helps us to effectively fulfill our mandate under YESAA. We use digital markers, and collect the above-described personal information, to improve our website. More information about how YESAB uses digital markers, and performs Web analytics, is set out below:

  1. i) Digital markers (including cookies)

A digital marker is a small file placed on your computer by a website that you visit. The marker is stored there so that the Web server can remember certain pieces of information about you. The Web server uses this information during the same or another visit to the website. Examples of digital markers are “cookies” or HTML5 Web storage. They are often used in the collection of Web analytics, to store your preferences (for example: language or location), and to manage your session if you are logged in.

  • IP address of the domain from which the internet was accessed;
  • Pages visited within the www.yesab.ca site;
  • Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site;
  • Date and time of the visit; and
  • Type of browser used

This information is disclosed to Google, an external third party service provider. In order

to help safeguard your privacy, we have activated the anonymization feature in Google Analytics. This anonymizes (masks) your IP address before it is stored on the service provider’s servers. For further information on Google Analytics, see Google’s Privacy Policy.

Data collected by YESAB for Web analytics purposes goes outside of Canada to the United States of America, and may be subject to the governing legislation of that country, such as the USA Patriot Act.
