The Executive Committee has recommended to the Government of Yukon that the Whitehorse Diesel – Natural Gas Conversion Project be allowed to proceed, subject to 13 terms and conditions. The Project was of high public interest and was of great concern to many Yukoners resulting in over 150 comment submissions over an 87 day public comment period. The main issues and concerns raised during the assessment related to air quality, safety and economics – specifically the effects to utility ratepayers. The effects to wildlife and aesthetics were also considered.
Recognizing the level of importance to the public and the complexity of the issues raised, the Executive Committee solicited technical support from some of the leading experts in North America. AECOM (air emissions), Risknology (safety) and MNP (economics). A copy of the report can be found on the YESAB Online Registry by searching project number 2013-0115.
